why are my thoughts so negative about myself?
Have you heard of the inner critic?
The inner critic is the voice you hear when you make a mistake, when you fail at something, when you are overthinking every decision, and replay every conversation in your head.
The inner critic is often critical of what you say, what you think, what you do or don’t do, how you do something, the list goes on.
But where does this inner critic come from?
Often times, the negativity you hear comes from beliefs you have adapted - most likely in your childhood. Parents being over critical of you and your choices; parents not allowing you to have the independence or the experience of making mistakes on your own; teachers, caregivers, peers being critical of you or comparing you.
The beliefs you hold onto now are rooted in something much deeper.
So what do I do? How do I quiet the voice?
